2021 / ART INDEX POP-UP / J&T BANK / PRAGUE

Art index pop-up is a unique look into the best of what’s coming out of the studios of the most distinct contemporary Czech artists.

In a non-gallery space you’ll find works from 44 Czech authors belonging among the 100 most visible contemporary artists whose influence on the art scene has been mapped out by the J&T Bank ART INDEX. This index was created out of a desire to help the general public, collectors, investors and art lovers orient themselves on the contemporary Czech art scene. The J&T BANK ART INDEX-POP has a similar ambition. Spreading out through six apartments under one roof over the course of four days, the event gives you the chance to look over an entire range of approaches to art today. You’ll have the chance to discover authors whose works will resonate with you, and some that’ll awaken the desire to discuss. You’ll find works here that’ll make you laugh, anger, agree or disagree with you, and those that’ll be gentle on the eyes or, on the contrary, provocative. Whatever the reaction, all of the works featured here have the ability to enrich you if you give them a chance.

Art index/ Petr Písařík

Petr Písařík’s work has its center of gravity somewhere between painting and object. These two elements become connected in space in the complex surroundings of an exhibition. His installations are known for their eclecticity, rawness and fortuitousness in which you’ll also find a sophisticated approach to composition and proportion. His materially diverse objects set up out of various fragments recalling the impression of deconstruction and unfinished entropy conquer their viewers with their visual impact, playfulness and distinct colors. Recently the historian Petr Hájek aptly described the artist’s objects as “the jewels of space.”
